African Hand-Carved Rhino | Natural stone Figurine

Grounded, powerful and patterned like the landscape: a one-of-a-kind rhino carved by hand.

This rhino was carved by hand by an artisan in Eswatini, the small southern African kingdom known for its wildlife reserves and stone-carving tradition. Its lowered head, upright ears, twin horns and carved skin folds on the shoulder give it the stance of a rhino mid-stride.

The stone is what makes this piece special. Its deep olive-green surface is scattered with tan, amber and rust-brown spots and veins, almost like lichen on a rock. Since the pattern is natural, no two rhinos look alike.

At about 4.5 inches long and 190 g, it’s compact but solid, and it works well on a shelf, desk, console or windowsill. It also makes a great gift for wildlife lovers, travellers, safari enthusiasts and collectors of African art. Pair it with the Cape buffalo for a small Big Five collection.
