Japanese Kutani Hand-Painted Porcelain Teapot

A beautifully decorated antique Japanese Kutani porcelain teapot, distinguished by its rich red palette, intricate gilded detailing and finely hand-painted bird and botanical motifs.

The rounded porcelain body is decorated with a continuous scene of a game bird in flight and a perched pheasant amongst chrysanthemums, foliage and a softly rendered landscape. The lid and rim carry further layers of red and gilt ornament, adding to the richly decorative character of the piece.

The underside bears a hand-painted two-character Kutani (九谷) mark, identifying the piece with the Kutani ceramic tradition of Japan.
